They usually stay to the top of the water column. They are capable of tolerating most water conditions making them ideal for beginner fish keepers. A maximum of 5 danios can be kept in a 22 litre tank. However danios are very active fish that need large enclosures to thrive. they usually grow up to 4cm in length.
