The Assassin Snail (Clea helena), also called the Bumblebee Snail, is a small carnivorous freshwater snail native to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. It has a distinctive yellow-and-brown banded shell that resembles a tiny bumblebee, making it quite eye-catching in an aquarium.
Unlike most aquarium snails, Assassin Snails are predators — they feed on pest snails such as ramshorns, pond snails, and bladder snails, helping control overpopulation naturally. They are slow-moving bottom dwellers that spend much of their time burrowed in soft sand or fine gravel, coming out to hunt or scavenge.
They stay relatively small, reaching about 1 inch in size, and are easy to care for in peaceful community tanks. As long as they have a food source, they are hardy and long-lived, often living 2–3 years or more.
