Rummy Nose Tetra is a striking schooling fish native to the clearwater and blackwater tributaries of the Amazon Basin in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. It is easily recognized by its bright red “blushing” head and the bold black-and-white striped pattern on its tail fin.
Key Care Points:
-
Behavior & Swimming: Very peaceful and best kept in large groups of 6 or more. They are tight schoolers, moving in unison across the mid-water column, which makes them especially eye-catching in planted tanks.
-
Diet: Omnivorous. Eats flakes and micro-pellets.
-
Lifespan: Typically 5–6 years with good care.
-
Max Size: Up to 2 inches (5 cm).
The Rummy Nose Tetra’s vivid red head and synchronized schooling make it one of the most striking shoaling fish available for community aquariums.
