The Kissing Gourami (Helostoma temminckii) is a popular freshwater fish known for its "kissing" behavior, which is a form of social interaction or territory assertion rather than affection. Native to Southeast Asia, they grow up to 12 inches or 30cm and have pink or silvery-green bodies with a metallic sheen.
Key Care Points:
Behavior: Semi-aggressive, especially with their own species; best with similarly-sized, peaceful tank mates.
Tank Requirements: Minimum 50 gallons, with plants and open swimming areas. Water temperature 72-82°F, pH 6.8-8.5.
Diet: Omnivores; feed a variety of flakes, pellets, vegetables, and occasional protein.
Lifespan: 10-15 years with proper care.
