The Gold Zebra Danio (Danio rerio), also known simply as the Golden Danio, is a selectively bred color morph of the classic Zebra Danio. Instead of the familiar blue-and-silver stripes, this variety showcases a soft golden body with pale, cream-colored horizontal striping. Hardy, active, and easy to care for, it’s a favorite for beginners and planted community tanks alike.
Key Care Points:
-
Behavior: Peaceful, playful, and very social. They thrive in schools of 6 or more, constantly darting around the tank and rarely hiding.
-
Diet: Omnivorous. Accepts flakes, micro pellets, and live or frozen foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, or bloodworms.
-
Lifespan: Lives 3–5 years with good care.
-
Max Size: Grows up to 2 inches (5 cm).
-
Growth Rate: Fast—juveniles reach near full size in 3 to 4 months with consistent feeding and clean water.
