Colombian Tetra (Hyphessobrycon columbianus) is a medium-sized, vibrant schooling fish native to the slow-moving streams and tributaries of the Río Acandí basin in Colombia. It stands out with its shimmering silver-blue body, bright red fins, and subtle iridescent glow that intensifies under good lighting, making it a lively highlight in community tanks.

Key Care Points:

Behavior & Swimming: Active, best kept in groups of six or more to reduce fin-nipping tendencies. They are energetic midwater swimmers that display beautiful schooling behavior when kept in adequate numbers and open swimming space.

Diet: Omnivorous. Eats flakes, pellets, and benefits from a variety of live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.

Lifespan: Typically 4–5 years with proper care.

Max Size: Up to 2.5 inches (6 cm).

The Colombian Tetra’s energetic nature and bright red fins make it a dynamic and colorful addition to medium or large community aquariums.
