The Bronze Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus), also known as the Green Cory, is a peaceful and hardy freshwater catfish prized for its bronze-to-green coloration and social behavior. Native to rivers, streams, and floodplains of South America, it is a favorite among aquarists due to its adaptability and ease of care.
Key Care Points:
- Behavior: Peaceful and highly social; thrives in groups of six or more. Active bottom-dweller that forages for food.
- Tank Requirements: soft, sandy substrate to protect its sensitive barbels
- Diet: Omnivorous; enjoys sinking pellets, algae wafers, and occasional live or frozen foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
- Lifespan: Typically lives 5-7 years with proper care.
- Max Size: Grows up to 2.5-3 inches (6-7.5 cm) in captivity.
- Growth Rate: Moderate; reaches adult size in about 6-8 months under optimal conditions.
The Bronze Corydoras’ versatility, hardiness, and peaceful nature make it an excellent choice for community tanks. Its active foraging behavior also helps maintain a clean substrate.
Small juvenile means its less than 1 inch size, Juvenile is around 1.5 inches, and adult will be around 2 inches.
